In 1998 EMO launched, with the financial support of the European Commission, the European Music Observatory. Within the framework of the Observatory's activities, several studies were carried out. Unfortunately, because of the lack of financial means, the Observatory had to close down in January 2000 after 2 years in operation. EMO regularly issues position papers and various information documents concerning its activities and the evolution of the music sector in Europe.
